I didn’t notice that he had come up behind me until he asked, “Do you think that’s funny?”
If I was reading Aristotle, I might have said:
Humor is the only test of gravity, and gravity of humor; for a subject which will not bear raillery is suspicious, and a jest which will not bear serious examination is false wit.
Instead I said, "No Sir!"
